About Us

Coates Walker is the marriage of decades of environmental/health design and cabinetry making experience.

Karen Fleming, co-founder and CEO, has been designing environmentally responsible/healthy products for the past 10+ years, most recently for Stonyfield Farm, Inc. and Seventh Generation, Inc., two leaders in environmentally responsible and healthy products for people and the planet. She brings to Coates Walker an in-depth knowledge of the key health and environmental issues related to healthy living and a healthy environment.

Douglas Coates Walker, co-founder and COO, started his woodworking and cabinet making career at the age of eleven working in the family's basement workshop and operated his own woodworking business since college. Doug brings to Coates Walker over 20 years of cabinetry and furniture making experience.

Our proprietary cabinetry design is the outcome of Karen and Doug’s in-depth exploration of the material and production processes that would yield cabinetry that meets their demanding standards for beauty, functionality, quality and authentic health and environmental benefits.
